Arbor Day Celebration at Steam Pump Ranch

The Town of Oro Valley will be hosting the Arbor Day Celebration at Steam Pump Ranch on Saturday, April 27, 2019. 

This event is free and open to the public.

Schedule of events:

9:30 a.m

  • Welcome and dignitary introductions
  • Mayor Joseph Winfield – personal remarks on the importance of Arbor Day
  • Tom Ellis (Parks superintendent) – brief comments on the value and importance of trees in a community

Approx. 9:45 a.m. Mayor plants ceremonial tree - either a Lacebark Elm or Red Pusch Pistache (TBD).

After the ceremonial tree is planted,  the Town invites residents and visitors to participate in the activities noted below:

  • There will be several (+/- 16) pre-dug holes for more tree planting for kids/families in attendance – Parks and Recreation staff will be on site to assist with planting.
  • Tom Ellis and James Gardner (both Certified Arborists) will provide tree pruning and care demonstrations on existing trees as well as facilitating a “stump the arborist” Q&A session
  • Arbor Day coloring sheets for kids will be available
  • Flower seed packet give-a-ways
  • Tree give-away raffle. Winner(s) announced at 11 a.m.  Participants do not have to be present to win.
