Town of Oro Valley 50th Anniversary Mayoral Proclamation

WHEREAS, on January 28, 1974, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled to approve the incorporation of Oro Valley; and

WHEREAS, on April 15, 1974, the Town of Oro Valley officially incorporated; and

WHEREAS, Oro Valley has grown from 2.5 square miles with a population of 1,200 residents up to 35 square miles with a population over 48,000; and

WHEREAS, over those 50 years of growth, Town of Oro Valley residents, staff and elected officials have remained dedicated to ensuring a high quality of life through quality services such as police, roads, water, parks and recreation; and

WHEREAS, volunteerism has become a cornerstone of Oro Valley, whether by the service of its boards and commissions, or by other residents who provide thousands of hours of assistance to the Town, extending resources and services; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Oro Valley marks its 50th anniversary with a parade on April 6, a celebration event at JDK Park on April 13, a year-long “shop local” effort with the Oro Valley Chamber, and a year-long project to showcase some of the people and stories from these past 50 years.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph C. Winfield, Mayor of the Town of Oro Valley, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2024 as the Town of Oro Valley’s 50th Anniversary of Incorporation, and I encourage community members to join in the celebration.
