Diaper Need Awareness Week 2024

WHEREAS, diaper need, the condition of not having a sufficient supply of clean diapers to ensure that infants and toddlers are clean, healthy and dry, can adversely affect the health and well-being of children and their families; and
WHEREAS, national surveys and research studies report that nearly one in two families struggle with diaper need and forty-eight percent of families delay changing a diaper to extend their supply; and
WHEREAS, providing an adequate supply of diapers is often an eligibility requirement for babies and toddlers to attend childcare and quality early-education programs therefore, allowing parents to work. Unfortunately, parents and caregivers struggling with diaper need report missing an average of five days of work each month due to an insufficient supply; and
WHEREAS, community-based organizations including Arizona Diaper Bank recognize the importance of diaper distribution to families through various channels, ensuring health and economic stability; and
WHEREAS, the people of Oro Valley recognize that diaper need is a public health issue and addressing diaper need can lead to economic opportunity for families and communities and improved health for children, thus ensuring all children and families have access to the basic necessities required to thrive and reach their full potential; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph C. Winfield, Mayor of Oro Valley, do hereby proclaim the week of September 23rd through 29th, 2024, as
DIAPER NEED AWARENESS WEEK
in the Town of Oro Valley and would like to recognize all the diaper banks, their staff, volunteers and donors. I encourage the residents of Oro Valley to donate generously to diaper banks, diaper drives and those organizations that collect and distribute diapers to those struggling with diaper need so communities can thrive ensuring health and economic stability.
