Mental Health Awareness Month 2025

WHEREAS, mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, impacting individuals, families, and communities across the globe; and
WHEREAS, one in five American adults experiences a mental health condition each year, and more than half the adult population experiences challenges in life that impact their mental health; and
WHEREAS, one in six US youth experience a mental health condition each year and over half the population experiences challenges in life that impact their mental health; and
WHEREAS, despite its prevalence, mental health remains shrouded in stigma, preventing many from seeking help; and
WHEREAS, early intervention and access to quality and affordable care are crucial for managing mental health conditions and improving quality of life; and
WHEREAS, May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to educate, combat stigma, and promote mental health resources.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joseph C. Winfield, Mayor of the Town of Oro Valley, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2025 as
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
in the Town of Oro Valley and encourage Town of Oro Valley employees to:
- Become certified in Mental Health First Aid through our in-house training program
- Take advantage of activities, wellness challenges and resources provided by the Employee Wellness Committee and the Community and Recreation Center
And I encourage all residents of Oro Valley to:
- Create safe and supportive environments for open conversations about mental health
- Seek help if you are struggling with your mental health, and encourage others to do the same
