At the May 2, 2018 Town Council meeting, Oro Valley Mayor Dr. Satish I. Hiremath issued a proclamation declaring Town of Oro Valley a Purple Heart Town, as designated by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
The Mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is "is to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support necessary legislative initiatives, and most importantly, provide service to all veterans and their families."
"This distinct honor recognizes cities and towns that go above and beyond for veterans," said Mayor Hiremath. "Through events taking place in Oro Valley such as The Wall that Heals and the Veterans and First Responders 5K, as well as a veteran preference hiring policy, the Town prides itself on being a pro-military community. The Town is thrilled to be a Purple Heart Town, and will continue to support our veterans."
John R. Moore, Adjutant, and Commander Mike Dyer for Chapter 442 Military Order of the Purple Heart in Tucson were there to accept the proclamation.
