Education: Bachelor of Arts in English, Brigham Young University. Juris Doctorate BYU Law School 2007, magna cum laude.

Biography:
Melanie Barrett grew up in San Diego and attended college at Brigham Young University, where she studied government, contracts, land use planning and negotiations. While at BYU, She served on the Law Review and, among her many accolades, she received an award for being the best Land Use and Planning student.

Barrett has been an Oro Valley resident since 2009. She has been engaged with the community by serving on the Oro Valley Planning and Zoning Commission from 2015 to 2018. During her time on the commission, she was actively involved in the 2016 voter-approved Your Voice, Our Future General Plan Update, and she served as the commission’s Vice Chair for the past year and a half.

Barrett is a married mother of four children, and she volunteers through her church, teaching and working with children and adults. She has also been a coach for Odyssey of the Mind. Her hobbies include photography, reading, singing and playing the flute.
