Jan works in the medium of acrylic, watercolor and pastel. Starting as a representational artist, her love of self expression in 'abstract mixed media' has evolved to enjoying the use of color, texture, and form in a new imaginative way. She feels there is a strong element of 'magic' and 'originality' in making art and hopes it is impressed upon the viewer in the same way.

She credits her love of art was a result of her mother's encouragement, ability to draw and teaching her to se the beauty of nature. Her art education started at home, continued to college level, self-study, and workshops with Bob Burridge, Skip Lawrence, Pat Dews, Tom Owen, Lian Quan Zhen and others.

Following retirement from a 20+ year career in Human Resource Management, Jan has taught beginning watercolor in California and Arizona (Highlands). She has had solo shows locally, has shown her work in California at Friends of the Arts Gallery in Carmel, and through membership in Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild (SAWG) and Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona (CASA). She served as President of CASA and organized workshops in Tucson, Arizona.

Jan Sennewald was born in California and presently lives in Marana, Arizona.
