Growing up on Cape Cod, in MA, I always had a love of nature and color. Forty years ago I moved to Tucson, after the Blizzard of '78, for a warmer, snow free climate. I do miss my ocean, but I fell in love with our Sonoran Desert, the blue sky, gorgeous sunsets, the plants, and animals. After retiring, my husband and I became docents at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum, and my love of nature and natural history has grown.
I have always taken photos of nature and my surroundings, and making photo cards, as gifts to friends. About ten years ago, my friend invited me up to her community's arts and crafts room, to try some art. I was really a novice. I started with ceramics, which I really enjoyed. Then she pushed me out of my comfort zone. We started with collage, which I learned can be very forgiving, and can create beautiful art. She then taught me to work with acrylic, watercolors, and batik with watercolor. I took a class on painting silk scarves with acrylic ink, which were beautiful. From that, we purchased silk material, painted it with the vibrant acrylic ink, and mounted the silk on canvas. The latest, is working with copper and creating amazing art and acrylic pouring.
So, from my original invitation from my friend, and amazing mentor, I have learned to create art, with various forms of multimedia. My artwork includes my love of nature and color.
I have participated in Arts and Craft Fairs at The Highlands, St. Phillips Plaza, St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Omni Tucson National, and the Tucson Mall Art Marketplace.
