14th Annual Shop with a Teacher

Published on August 07, 2018

For the 14th consecutive year, the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 53 (FOP) will partner for the annual "Shop with a Teacher" event. This year's event will be held Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oro Valley Target, located at 10555 N. Oracle Road.

Eleven private and public schools in Oro Valley will each be given $200 by the FOP to purchase supplies for the current school year. This program aims to supplement classroom supplies so teachers do not pay out of their own pockets. Educating our children and keeping them safe remain top priorities for OVPD, as demonstrated by this event and OVPD's nationally recognized School Resource Officers Unit. Chief Daniel Sharp states "Serving the children of this great community is a priority for the police department. Shop with a Teacher has always been a great event and it is truly is an honor to give back to our community by providing needed supplies to the wonderful men and women who teach our kids."

For the fifth year, the Greater Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce will provide a $300 donation to the Oro Valley Fraternal Order of Police in support of Shop with a Teacher. "Arizona's school funding situation has been Page 1 news this last year, and state government is beginning to address the need," said Dave Perry, president / CEO of the Chamber. "It's also important for our Chamber and the business community to assist, helping teachers defray their classroom expenses with a gift card. Together, we can begin to build the resources our children need to succeed."
