The Town of Oro Valley announced today that the Town’s Magistrate Court now provides live audio streaming of its court cases via YouTube. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and directives from the State Supreme Court, in person court sessions have not been an option. The Oro Valley Magistrate Court has instituted this service to provide the public open access to listen to real time proceedings of the Court.

For trials and other evidentiary hearings that are conducted entirely on a Zoom video conferencing format, the video of the court sessions will also be livestreamed.

“Court proceedings that are open to the public are an important part of our democracy. The public needs to be able to see that the legal process is open and conducted fairly,” said Oro Valley Magistrate George Dunscomb. “This streaming allows us to make the court proceedings available so there is trust that due process is followed and still keep everyone as safe as possible. We have excluded almost everyone from the Court building since March of this year, and this service allows the public to at least hear what is going on in court.”
