Oro Valley Chamber Launches Holiday Ornament Hunt to Encourage Shopping Local

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. — The Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce, with the support of the Town of Oro Valley, is launching this holiday season’s rendition of its community shop-local hunt, designed to highlight local retailers and inspire residents to support local businesses during the busiest shopping time of the year.

Beginning Black Friday, the Chamber’s Oro Valley Ornament Hunt invites the public to explore twenty retail locations across town. Each participating shop will display a limited-edition wooden ornament, handcrafted by students in the Canyon del Oro High School woodshop program.

Participants can join in on the Ornament Hunt by using the Explore Oro Valley app to view an interactive map of participating locations. A paper map will also be available at any participating business as well as at the Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce office.

Participating locations include:
Begin Again Consignment
Cathey’s Sewing and Vacuum
Diviti Adora Infrared and Red Light Studio

“This program is about connection,” said Kristen Sharp, Chamber President & CEO. “It connects our community to local shops, it connects students to hands-on learning, and it keeps holiday dollars right here in Oro Valley, supporting the people who live and work here.”

The Chamber’s summer restaurant version of the program generated more than 700 verified purchases and over $14,000 in local spending, a number that is likely much higher when accounting for group dining and higher-value meals. The holiday Ornament Hunt builds on that momentum by shifting the focus to retail and seasonal shopping.

Shopping local has a powerful economic impact. For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, about $68 stays in the community. Local businesses create jobs, support local causes, and contribute to a stronger, more resilient local economy.

While ornaments are free, guests will also have the opportunity to make an optional donation via QR code to support two local food banks serving families in Oro Valley and the surrounding areas: IMPACT of Southern Arizona and Interfaith Community Services. No cash will be accepted at participating sites.

The Oro Valley Ornament Hunt launches Friday, November 28, and continues throughout the holiday season (while supplies last). To participate, download the Explore Oro Valley app and follow @theOVChamber for updates, and announcements.
