OV’s upcoming Community Academy to focus on planning OV’s future

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (Sept. 6, 2023) – Would you like to learn more about local government and help shape Oro Valley’s future? Then we invite you to register for Oro Valley’s Fall 2023 Community Academy, which will have a special focus on the upcoming Townwide planning efforts. For 26 years, the Town has been hosting this free, informative and award-winning series. Please register by Oct. 1 to reserve your spot.

This fall, the Town is kicking off efforts to achieve a voter-ratified General Plan by 2026. Oro Valley’s General Plan is a community-driven, 10-year plan for Oro Valley’s future that includes goals, policies, and measurable actions for public safety, environment, parks, water, development, housing, employment and more. The current General Plan, Your Voice, Our Future, was ratified by voters in 2016.

Community Academy will be held twice a week from Oct. 10 through Oct. 30. Classes will be held from 6-8 p.m. at Oro Valley Town Hall (11000 N. La Cañada Drive). Participants are encouraged to attend in person but may join sessions online. Online attendees will only be able to follow along with the presentation and may not be able to participate in group activities.

Oct. 10: Welcome and Overview of Town Governance
Oct. 12: 2026 General Plan - Importance of Community Involvement
Oct. 17: Housing and Development Trends
Oct. 19: Zoning 101 and Development Review
Oct. 24: Town Finances and Economic Development
Oct. 26: Public Safety and Parks and Recreation
Oct. 30: Town Water Resource Planning

Participants who attend at least half of the classes are eligible to graduate. The graduation will involve a celebratory dinner and certificate recognition at the Nov. 1 Town Council meeting.
