Zoning Interpretation

An interpretation is a formal explanation issued by the Planning and Zoning Administrator to clarify a provision of the zoning code. A zoning interpretation is different than an administrative decision, which is the routine application of the zoning code.

Fees

As specified in the Oro Valley Zoning Code, all fees must be paid in full prior to receiving a zoning interpretation.

The fee for a Zoning Interpretation is $100.00 per request.

 

Step 1: Submittal for Staff Review

  • Town staff will review your request and the Planning and Zoning Administrator will issue a written interpretation within 10 business days. 
  • You can submit your formal application online through the customer portal under "Planning and Zoning" - "Zoning Interpretation."
  • Submit the following information through the customer portal in PDF format. Please name PDF files in a self-explanatory manner such as “Document Type – Date.”
    • A Letter detailing the nature of the request including:
      • Address and/or parcel number of property, if applicable
      • Any additional information, if applicable

Step 2: Notification 

  • Interpretations are published on the Town’s website HERE and available at Town Hall for the public.
  • Zoning interpretations may be appealed to the Board of Adjustment in accordance with Section 21.4.
