Tucson Bicycle Classic brings circuit race to Oro Valley on Feb. 25

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (Feb. 14, 2024) – The Town of Oro Valley is pleased to announce the return of the Tucson Bicycle Classic to our community on Sunday, Feb. 25, from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Oro Valley race route will be around Naranja Park (810 W. Naranja Drive) and is expected to bring more than 500 professional riders.

Some street closures and traffic restrictions will be in effect to ensure the safety of both participants and spectators. Click here for a map.

Traffic restrictions

On race day, area motorists should expect traffic delays and/or lane restrictions on the following roads in the vicinity of Naranja Park. Road closures and diversions will start at 5 a.m. Traffic cones, signs and police will be along the course route to direct traffic.

  • Naranja Park will be closed to all vehicles except to the racers.
  • Naranja Drive, from La Cañada Drive to Monterra Vista Drive, will only be open to east-bound traffic. The west-bound lanes will be completely closed.
  • La Cañada Drive, from Naranja Drive to Tangerine Road, will have lane reductions/restrictions, but travel will remain open in both directions.
  • Monterra Vista Drive, from Naranja Drive to Tangerine Road, will only be open to northbound traffic. The south-bound lane will be closed.
  • Tangerine Road, from La Cañada Drive to Monterra Vista Drive, will have lane reductions/restrictions, but travel will remain open in both directions.

Neighborhood impact and street closures

  • Copper Creek Drive will be closed at the Naranja Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood from La Cañada Drive or Tangerine Road.
  • Verismo Drive will be closed at the Tangerine Road entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood from Musette Drive.
  • Plateau Road will be closed at the Monterra Vista Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood from Potosi Point Drive or Ridge Peak Road.
  • Sugar Loaf Road will be closed at the Monterra Vista Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood from Ridge Peak Road or Azmataz Road.
  • Teskow Drive will be closed at the Monterra Vista Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood from Quandry Drive or Flat Iron Drive.
  • Pomegranate Drive will be closed at the Naranja Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood to the south on Lambert Lane.
  • Guava Drive will be closed at the Naranja Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood to the south on Lambert Lane.
  • Poinsettia Drive will be closed at the Naranja Drive entrance. Motorists may enter/exit the neighborhood to the south on Lambert Lane.

Spectator information

Get ready to witness the streets come alive as professional cyclists gear up for a thrilling race through our beautiful community. The race promises to be an extraordinary showcase of Oro Valley’s outstanding cycling terrain with a day chalked full of high-speed action and fierce competition.

“Since the Oro Valley circuit is the third and final day of racing, the race will be action-packed,” said Oro Valley’s Tourism Strategies Coordinator Andrew Fairbanks. “It’s a great way for people of all ages to see what competitive cycling is all about.”

The race route/circuit around Naranja Park is just over four miles long, and riders will complete that route up to 11 times, providing spectators an excellent opportunity to view these athletes in action multiple times. The race will begin and end near the south entrance to Naranja Park, with various viewing areas along the route. On event day, Naranja Park will be closed to all vehicles except to the racers.

The Town invites the community to come and watch the circuit race, but please plan ahead due to traffic delays and restrictions. Along the route, there are designated areas that offer unique vantage points. Parking will be available at the Oro Valley Town Hall/Oro Valley Public Library Campus (11000 N. La Cañada Drive). Please note that since parking is not available at some of the spectator locations, you will only be able to walk or ride a bike. Click here for a map of the recommended viewing locations.
