OV partnership strengthens reputation as premiere cycling destination

ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (Feb. 29, 2024) – Oro Valley is proud to announce a new partnership with Project Echelon for a weekend of fundraising events to support cycling programming for veterans, March 2-3. Project Echelon is a 501.3c non-profit organization that works to support the health and wellbeing of veterans. Their professional cycling team won last weekend’s Tucson Bicycle Classic, a portion of which was also held in Oro Valley.
On Saturday, March 2, a fundraising golf tournament will be held at Oro Valley’s own El Conquistador Golf Course. Later that evening, guests will attend Project Echelon’s first-ever formal gala fundraiser at the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort and Spa. Then on Sunday, March 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., local cyclists will have the opportunity to ride in a non-competitive race alongside the professional riders of Project Echelon. The Town of Oro Valley and Marana have partnered to provide a race route that explores the unique beauty that spans these scenic communities.
“The Fondo Weekend is a fantastic opportunity for cyclists to come together, challenge themselves, and enjoy the beauty of northern Pima County,” said Eric Hill, executive director of Project Echelon.
In addition to supporting veterans and strengthening Oro Valley’s reputation as an idyllic cycling community, these three events will have a positive economic impact on the Town and local businesses, as participants will stay in Oro Valley hotels, golf on Town courses, and dine in local restaurants.
While event registration for the gala and golf tournament are closed, registration for the Gran Fondo ride ($50) will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on February 29, 2024. Info for motorists
Due to the non-competitive nature of this event, there will be no traffic restrictions or lane closures. The bicycle ride follows the regular laws and rules for cycling, which includes riding on the shoulder of the road and obeying all traffic signs and signals.
