Effective January 1, 2026 - Adoption of 2024 Codes, consisting of the 2024 Building Codes & 2023 National Electrical Code (Exception: 2018 IECC)
This policy outlines how building permit applications, permits, and related actions will be processed in relation to the adoption of the 2024 Codes.

|
Updates to comply with the 2024 Codes are required to re-activate an expired or abandoned permit. Re-activation under the 2018 Codes may be considered at the Building Official’s discretion (e.g., projects with completed inspections prior to expiration).

Revision(s) to a permit originally issued under the 2018 Codes

|
Revisions will be reviewed and grandfathered under the 2018 Codes, even if submitted after the January 1, 2026 effective date, provided the permit remains in an active/non-expired status.

Expiration extension request(s) for a permit reviewed and approved under the 2018 Codes

If the permit has not been issued, one 90-day extension may be granted without requiring updates to the 2024 Codes. If the permit has been issued, one 180-day extension may be granted without required updates to the 2024 Codes. Subsequent extension requests under the 2018 Codes may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Building Official

Definitions and Notes:
- Grandfathered: A project may remain under the previously adopted 2018 Codes if it was submitted prior to January 1, 2026, and has remained in an active/non-expired status.
- Active: The permit or application has not expired or been abandoned in accordance with Town regulations.
- The Building Official retains discretion to determine code applicability in unique or transitional circumstances.
