Weather-related construction delays at Cañada Hills Drive and Moore/Cañada roundabout

November 20, 2019

The recent rainfall, which is expected to continue through Thursday, November 21, has delayed the reopening of Cañada Hills Drive (at La Cholla Blvd) and the Moore/La Cañada intersection.

Cañada Hills Drive
The Cañada Hills Drive entrance at La Cholla was scheduled to reopen on Friday, November 22. The contractor, Hunter Contracting, Inc., was scheduled to pave the entrance this week, but due to the recent heavy rainfall the opening has been rescheduled for Wednesday, November 27. The November 27 date is weather dependent. If weather further delays the reopening of the Cañada Hills Drive entrance to La Cholla, the Town and contractor will work together to temporarily open this entrance for the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 27 through Dec. 1) to help ease traffic during the holiday weekend. The entrance will then be closed to allow the contractor to finish the paving. The Town will issue a traffic alert if the entrance is temporarily opened, as well as alerts on the Town’s social media accounts.

Moore/La Cañada intersection (roundabout)
The Town of Oro Valley has revised the completion date for the Moore Road/La Cañada Drive roundabout. Due to heavy rainfall, the reopening of the intersection will not occur until the afternoon of Wednesday, November 27. The contractor, Borderland Construction, had been on schedule to meet the November 22 completion date, but the rain will delay the lane striping for the intersection. The contractor must wait until the storm has passed through the area and the intersection dries in order for paint to be applied to stripe the intersection. Based on the anticipated duration of the wet weather, the Town estimates that striping will take place on November 25 and 26, and following clean up of the construction site, the roundabout will open on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 27. The schedule for reopening at this point is entirely weather dependent.

Please be advised: for public safety, until the barricades are removed the Moore/La Cañada intersection remains closed to vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

The Town will issue a traffic alert once the Moore/La Cañada intersection is open to traffic.

An educational video on how to use the roundabout can be found here.

*Please note that construction schedules are weather dependent.
