Oro Valley Town Council Spotlight On Youth recognizes Copper Creek Elementary second-grade students Kaity Southwick and Camden Soloway for their leadership and citizen involvement.

May 21, 2014

When their class was learning about the rights, responsibilities and roles of citizenship, Kaity and Camden decided to test the theory of a person’s ability to affect change. They came up with the idea of writing a letter to their principal and collecting signatures of other students in support of a menu change at school each week. During their lunch breaks, they collected 110 signatures—including teachers!—and with the help of Principal Walker, submitted the letter and petition to the Amphi School District Food Services Director. The Director was so impressed with their efforts, he approved their suggestion!
