Spotlight on Youth: Desaray Horner

Desaray Horner is an eighth grade student at Coronado K-8 School and was nominated by her principal for this recognition because she is a terrific example for her peers and an inspiration to all.

Desaray was only four months old when doctors determined that she was visually impaired. From the time she was a tiny girl, to the now vibrant young woman she is, Desaray never let this stand in her way.

She is a dedicated sister to her seven siblings, a loyal friend, and a hard-working student. She taught her little brother how to jump, even though physical therapists had tried before.

Desaray likes being out in the community and she enjoys mentoring younger children who have special needs. She has a gift for helping them learn and grow.

Her favorite subject is math, where she excels. She reads and writes braille, and in fact, just competed in a braille challenge at the Arizona Schools for the Deaf and Blind.
