As a promotional item, HealthySkin Medical & Cosmetic Dermatology once gave away branded shot glasses.

Why? That’s the volume of sun screen you need to protect your skin from the Arizona sun.

Kristine Medina, a laser technician, said HealthySkin’s objectives are to prevent sun damage, to repair it, and to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Patient satisfaction is paramount. “When someone’s happy with their skin, and healthy, it’s very gratifying,” she said. “It’s all about the patient experience.”

Dr. Scott Sheftel, trained at the University of Arizona, started the business as an individual practitioner 20 years ago with 4 employees. It has grown remarkably; Southern Arizona’s largest dermatology practice now has 4 offices in the region, 9 physicians, 4 physician’s assistants and 80 total employees. Of those 80, 25 work in its beautiful, 4-year-old Oro Valley office, where HealthySkin runs its company-wide customer service departments. It occupies 6,200 square feet, and is ready to expand into existing adjacent space.

“We get so many clients from word of mouth and participating in community events.” said practice administrator Lewis Baker. “We've continue to experience much growth from giving back.  It's a delight.”

HealthySkin educates guests at health fairs and community outreach opportunities. As a result, customers come to the Oro Valley office from across the region.

Its primary emphasis is skin health, to include cancer screenings; HealthySkin saw 56,000 patients last year. Cosmetic treatments, among them miscrodermabrasions, peels, facials, waxing, acne surgeries and laser treatments, are part of their patient service. Educating their patients is a high priority and commitment.  HealthySkin sells sun hats, and distributes sunscreen and photo-sensitive wristbands that tell you when it’s time to cover up.

Fill that shot glass, then. And, if you need a sun hat, HealthySkin has those as well.
