Shop OV Spotlight: Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers

Photo of Freddy's staff holding milkshake and smiling

At Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers, a bright, red-and-white, fast / casual '60s-style diner in Steam Pump Village, you can feast on prime beef burgers, Chicago-style hot dogs and custard treats so thick you can tip them over without consequence.

August 24, 2017

All to the sound of "Hang on Sloopy," The McCoys' #1 hit from 1964.

The store opened in front of Basis Oro Valley last May, giving staff the summer to be fully trained and ready to rock and roll for the busier season. Freddy's is employing dozens of young, local people.

Freddy Simon is a World War II veteran so admired that his sons and their business partner named a restaurant, and its food, for him. After the high-quality 'burgers, dogs and the fixings, a meal is capped with custard, ice cream’s richer, smoother cousin, in a "concrete" that seemingly won't melt. Try one – you can tip it upside down, and it’s as solid and intact as soldier Freddy Simon.

To draw a crowd, the restaurant has started Friday night car shows at Freddy's.

And, if you’re looking to raise money for your charity or non-profit, contact Freddy's about special fund-raising nights. Your organization can keep 15 percent of the proceeds, all while enjoying an evening of burgers made from steak cuts, all-beef hot dogs – to include the Chicago Dog Freddy's Style, with mustard, relish, onions, peppers, salt, tomato and pickle -- and of course, topped off with custard in a sundae, a concrete, a shake or a malt, in a cone or dish, with all the toppings you can imagine.

Hang on, Sloopy!
