OV Aquatic Center to host state championships this weekend

March 6, 2017

The Oro Valley Aquatic Center, in partnership with FAST (Flying Fish Arizona Swim Team), will host the 2017 Arizona Swimming Short Course Age Group State Championships. This event, which takes place March 9-12, will feature more than 700 swimmers, ages 7-14, from across the state of Arizona.

These young athletes have met the qualifying time standard set by Arizona Swimming LSC. Nearly 50 USA Swimming officials will be on hand to officiate this event. The meet design includes preliminary sessions in the morning, and finals for the top 16 swimmers in the evening, with the exception of the long distance events, which are held as timed finals throughout the meet.
Athletes benefit from a state-of-the-art facility and a “fast” pool. Families and guests enjoy the surrounding park as well as Oro Valley’s wonderful amenities, including hotels, restaurants and shopping.

This is the fourth consecutive year that FAST and the Town of Oro Valley have hosted the Short Course State Championship meet. Event support also comes from the Greater Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce, Visit Tucson, Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Resort, Red Lion Inn and Suites Tucson North, The Overlook Restaurant, Panera Bread, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Fry’s Food and Drug Store, Eegees, Jersey Mike’s Subs and Papa Johns.
