“The Town was fortunate to have so many qualified applicants across the country interested in leading Oro Valley’s exceptional Police Department,” said Oro Valley Mayor Joe Winfield. “As a Council, we have agreed that selecting a police chief is one of the most important responsibilities of this body, and we are united in our commitment to select the best candidate. I am excited that the Council will have the opportunity next week to vote on the appointment of Commander Riley to that position.”

Riley has served as commander with the Oro Valley Police Department since 2017, and currently oversees field services. She has been employed with the department since 2004, and has held multiple positions including executive officer, patrol lieutenant and support services lieutenant. Prior to her employment with Oro Valley, Riley was a police officer and police sergeant with the Tucson Airport Authority for 11 years.

The Town of Oro Valley has been working with Novak Consulting Group to recruit a new police chief since September 2019. The firm received 70 applications for the position from 31 states, the District of Columbia and several from outside the United States. According to the firm, applicants had an average of 27 years of law enforcement experience and 10 years’ experience at the command staff level.

Town Council will vote on the appointment and an employment agreement for Riley at its scheduled meeting on February 5. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in Town Hall Council Chambers at 11000 N. La Cañada Drive in Oro Valley. Click here to view the meeting agenda.
