The Lambert Lane Safety Improvements, Phase II project was recognized as a 2018 Engineering Excellence Grand Award winner at the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Arizona's 38th Annual Engineering Excellence Awards in Tempe on Saturday, October 6.

October 8, 2018

AECOM led the final design and post-design; project construction was managed by Granite Construction. Described as an “outstanding example of nailing success through engineering innovation and client vision,” the $7 million project improved vehicle safety and capacity for 0.6 miles of Lambert Lane, west of La Cañada Drive. The project, located just south of Oro Valley Town Hall, has created a visually stunning gateway into Oro Valley.

The project included lowering Lambert Lane 12 feet vertically and overcoming the complexity of soil nail walls with more than 1,000 soil nails and exceeding 35 feet in height through the application of new and unique design and construction techniques.

The Town of Oro Valley celebrated the completion of the Lambert Lane Safety Improvements, Phase II project on January 10, 2018, with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony. The project began late 2016.

About the Lambert Lane Safety Improvements, Phase II Project
The Lambert Lane Phase II Project improved safety and visibility along Lambert Lane, from West Lambert Lane Park to La Cañada Drive, by widening the roadway to four lanes with raised medians and turn lanes, including multi-modal enhancements, curbs and landscaping. The work was performed by Granite Construction, Inc., and the project was funded by the Pima Association of Governments.

Other project details include: sidewalks, a multi-use pedestrian pathway, retaining walls, drainage culverts, channel facilities, catch basins, utility relocations, earthwork, aggregate base and asphaltic concrete, signage, pavement markings, traffic signal upgrade and replacement, seeding and vegetation transplanting.
