La Cholla Boulevard Phase II widening project begins Monday, January 7

Oro Valley Town Seal

On Monday, January 7, 2019, construction crews will begin Phase II of the La Cholla Boulevard Improvements Project, between Overton and Tangerine Roads. The traveling public should expect heavy delays, especially during morning and afternoon commute hours. Please watch out for construction equipment and construction workers. If possible, use alternative routes.

January 4, 2019

This project will help reduce congestion, improve safety and provide additional capacity for future traffic demands. Project completion is estimated to be mid to late 2020.

The work is being performed by Hunter Contracting, and the project is funded by the Town of Oro Valley, Pima County and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA). This project is part of the RTA plan approved by Pima County voters in 2006. It is funded by a voter-approved, countywide half-cent transaction privilege (sales) tax to fund the plan through 2026.

Improvements in Phase II include:
• Widening La Cholla Blvd. to four lanes from Overton Rd. to Tangerine Rd.
• Raised landscaped median
• Multi-use lanes and traffic signal improvements
• Multi-use paths and ADA facilities
• Drainage improvements
• Landscaping and water harvesting
• Accommodations for wildlife
