Councilmember Mike Zinkin

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, Mike Zinkin and his family would move to Tucson in 1958.  In 1967, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and was Commissioned Ensign, USNR, serving in the military for two years. He went on to earn his Master’s degree in 1976 at California State University, Northridge.

Mike spent more than 30 years in air traffic control before retiring in 1998 and moving to Oro Valley. In addition to serving on his neighborhood HOA and the master HOA, Mike has twice completed the Oro Valley Citizen’s Planning Institute, served four years on the Oro Valley Developmental Review Board (two years as chairman), and was a member of the Town’s Board of Adjustment. 

Mike currently serves as a member of the National League of Cities (NLC) Community and Economic Development Steering Committee and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Budget and Economic Development Committee. As a Leadership Fellow in NLC University, Mike has earned a bronze level certificate.

Mike and his wife Ramona have four beautiful grandchildren.  Prior to being elected to Town Council, Mike worked as an AIA Sports Official in Football and Baseball.  He currently runs the clock at Ironwood Ridge High School during the Basketball season.
