Councilmember Joe Hornat
Term Expires: November 2018
Hornat and his wife have been residents of Oro Valley since early 2006. They came here after spending the last 28 years in the Chicago suburb of Hinsdale, Illinois. Their four grown children still reside in the Chicago and Cincinnati areas.
“I discovered Arizona while here on a government-sponsored program called “the draft” right out of college in 1966,” he says.
Hornat spent two years at Fort Huachuca working in what was then called the United States Army Electronic Proving Grounds (USAEPG) in an avionics lab testing prototypes.
“We spent vacations in many parts of the country, but we always came back to southern Arizona for its unique character and beauty,” he says.
Currently, Hornat is council liaison to both the Oro Valley Water Utility Commission and Planning and Zoning Commission. He is also council liaison to Arizona State elected officials, a representative on the Tucson Mexico Trade Coalition, the Mayor's representative on the Davis Monthan Tucson Valley Commission, and a member of the Arizona Association for Economic Development. He previously served two years (one as vice chair) of the Planning and Zoning Commission in Oro Valley prior to being elected to Town Council. He has also been active in the Rancho Vistoso HOA as a member of the Finance Committee and the Compliance Committee. He is also an active volunteer in Arizona Attorney General’s Office as a mediator in the Civil Rights Division here in Tucson and a member of the Oro Valley American Legion Post 132.
