Oro Valley History & Culture Educational Field Trips for Students/Educators

Attention teachers, administration, home school education providers and group activity organizers. We have the perfect Historic Educational Field trip opportunity for you!  Each session meets curriculum requirements for government standards.  Field trips are held at historic Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 N. • Prehistoric Hands-on Archaeology activities

  • Experience a replica Hohokam pithouse
  • Eat the same type of foods as the prehistoric people
  • Learn about the tools they used and how they were made
  • Learn how they hunted and try similar techniques
  • Learn how they grew their food and how they obtained the necessary water

• Pusch Family history from the 1870’s - 1920’s

  • A pioneer family settling in the Tucson area over 100 years ago
  • Learn about how this family ran a business and a cattle ranch
  • Early government through George Pusch’s term in the Arizona House of Representatives at the time Arizona became a state
  • The family ran the Steam Pump that watered Cavalry, Pony Express, Stagecoaches and cattle

• Procter – Leiber history from the 1930’s – 1990’s

  • Also an important family to the ranch history
  • As manager of the Pioneer hotel, Jack Procter grew herbs and vegetables as well as raised chickens on the Ranch for those visiting the Hotel in downtown Tucson
  • Held big gatherings that brought influential people to the ranch
  • Learn about early baseball in Tucson and the nation through Hank Leiber
