GOHS Provides OVPD with Grant Funding to Combat DUI and Speeding

Oro Valley Police logo

The Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) through financial support by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has received $26,500 in overtime funding to support DUI enforcement and participation with the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force in fiscal year 2017/2018.

November 16, 2017

GOHS has provided OVPD with an additional $10,500 to purchase three new speed detection devices which will be used during High Visibility Enforcement (HiVE) and targeted speed enforcement efforts.

OVPD is committed to eliminating crimes that involve the abuse of drugs and alcohol in our community.  Combatting impaired driving requires a significant monetary investment.  The true cost however extends beyond the monetary investment.  The aftermath of a collision involving an impaired driver effects the victims, their families and friends and the community.  OVPD will continue to aggressively combat impaired driving to include participating in the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force Deployments.

OVPD is also committed to combatting speeding within our community. Speed related collisions increase the likelihood of physical injury, serious physical injury or death. OVPD will be conducting aggressive enforcement through its HiVE and Targeted Speed Enforcement efforts.

We would like to thank GOHS for their continued partnership and support toward these efforts.
