Community Academy

The Town of Oro Valley is now accepting enrollment for our 2018 Community Academy. The Academy offers an opportunity to learn about local governance and is free for all community members.

A series of six classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 8 PM, from October 9 through November 7. All classes will be held on the Town campus located at 11000 N. La Cañada Drive. Course materials will be provided.

 10/9/18 Welcome! An overview of Town governance and finances Welcome! This course includes information about the Town’s structure and form of government, roles and responsibilities of Town departments, and an overview of Town finances.  
 10/11/18 Creating Prosperity and Economic Opportunities This course includes a panel of local and regional economic development experts to answer your questions about the Town’s and regional efforts to attract new employers and stimulate job opportunities in Oro Valley.  
 10/16/18 Water: Present and Future Have you ever wondered what the Town’s water supply is now and for the future? Where water comes from in Oro Valley and how it gets to your home? In this hands-on session, participants head out to the field to see different types of water infrastructure and how water is routed through the Town.  
 10/18/18 Rezoning and Development Review This course provides a better understanding of the Your Voice, Our Future General Plan, the Town’s zoning districts and the process for changing the use of a property. The course includes an interactive presentation reviewing a current rezoning request and the items evaluated during the development review process.  
 10/23/18 OV Main Streets:  Placemaking Through Public Art OV Main Streets is a Town-led long range planning project to create areas for gathering, dining and shopping that serve as a Town center. Creative placemaking uses arts and culture to create unique destinations. Join Town staff and Southern Arizona Arts Cultural Alliance (SAACA) to discuss turning Lambert Lane and La Cañada Drive Main Street into a fun, vibrant place through public art!  
 10/25/18 Getting Involved in Oro Valley! This course will provide participants with a better understanding of the many opportunities to get involved in the Town. A panel of past and current board and commission members will be available to answer your questions.  
 11/7/18 (Wednesday) Wrap Up and Graduation Thank you! Join staff to briefly summarize the Community Academy and evaluate the course. This session will end with a special presentation of certificates during the Town Council meeting.
