November and December traffic deployment

During November the Oro Valley Police Department (OVPD) Traffic Unit will focus enforcement and education efforts on bicycle safety. This initiative is in cooperation with the Department of Transportation’s Mayor’s Challenge for Safer Streets and Safer People that the Town of Oro Valley is participating in (https://www.transportation.gov/mayors-challenge).

OVPD motorcycle officers will concentrate their efforts in the areas of: La Cañada and Moore, La Cañada and Tangerine, and First Ave and Tangerine. Please be aware of the increased activity on:

Thursday, November 10          7 – 10 a.m.
Thursday, November 17          7 – 10 a.m.
Tuesday, November 22           3 – 6 p.m.
Wednesday, November 30       7 – 10 a.m.
Wednesday, December 7         3 – 6 p.m.
Tuesday, December 13           7 – 10 a.m.

Officers will focus on both bicycle and vehicle moving violations, failure to give bicyclist three feet when passing and riding more than two abreast.

El Tour de Tucson is scheduled on November 19, 2016.  OVPD would like to remind the community that you will see an increase in bicycle traffic as athletes prepare for this large event.
