Pedestrian struck by vehicle and killed

On April 27, 2016 at approximately 8:15 a.m. a male pedestrian was walking southbound on the sidewalk on First Ave approaching Palisades when he was struck by a vehicle.  The preliminary investigation reveals that the driver of the vehicle, Joseph Freese (38 year-old male) was traveling southbound on First Ave when he lost control of his vehicle, swerving across the median and the northbound lanes of traffic striking the pedestrian prior to crashing into the desert.  The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The victim’s name is not being released at this time due to the family continuing with notifications. The driver was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries. Alcohol/drug impairment is not suspected in this collision.  The investigation is ongoing.
