Biography:
Pat Spoerl was appointed to the Oro Valley Town Council to fill a council seat vacated by former Council member Paula Abbott. She most recently served on the Town’s Historic Preservation Commission and the Steam Pump Ranch Master Plan Task Force. She was a member of the Citizen Steering Committee for the General Plan Update and of the General Plan Revision Committee.
Her wide ranging experience in resource management has made her an advocate of the value of incorporating natural and cultural resources in community planning and development and she believes that volunteer involvement in local government will help maintain the quality of life in Oro Valley.
Pat grew up in Kentucky. She conducted archaeological field work in Arizona as part of her graduate studies and then moved west, first to New Mexico and then Arizona. She has over 20 years experience managing cultural resource and tribal relations programs, outdoor recreation and wilderness programs, and land adjustment and special uses programs for the Coronado National Forest. She retired from the Forest Service in 2005, the same year she was a co-founder of the Oro Valley Historical Society.
Her husband is an archaeologist. Her son, a graduate of Canyon del Oro High School and the University of Connecticut, lives in Oro Valley with his wife.
