Safety Tips for Teens

SEXTING IS ILLEGAL!

Don't take or send nude or suggestive photos of yourself or anyone else.  Taking, sending or forwarding a sexual picture of someone underage, even if it's you, is a crime and could cause you to be prosecuted.

  • Never take photos of yourself that you wouldn't want everyone to see.  What you send could easily end up on MySpace, Facebook, or elsewhere on the internet.
  • If a sexting photo arrives on your phone, do not send it to anyone else.  Doing so is a crime.
  • If you receive a nude or suggestive photo or a minor and keep it on your computer, you could also be guilty of sexting.
  • Report any inappropriate photos or messages you receive on your cell or computer to an adult you trust. Get you parents and teachers involved immediately.  If the photos keep coming, you and your parents will need to report this to law enforcement.
  • Don't freak out if an adult decides to talk with the parents of the other involved -- that could be the very best way to keep all of you from getting into serious trouble.
  • Sexting can be done on any media communications device -- including email and internet.  Teens have been convicted for child porn distribution for emailing sexually explicit photo to each other.
