Property and ID Unit
The Oro Valley Police Department's Property and ID Unit is staffed by Property Forensic Techs and a Reserve Officer. Shifts are rotated on a 24-hour, 7-day callout basis to assist officers with locating, documenting, collecting and preserving physical evidence from investigations and crime scenes.
Three crime scene vans are equipped to handle most crime scene evidence, from latent fingerprint and shoe impression preservation to serological, biological and trace evidence. Crime scenes and incidents can be documented with with digital video and digital 35mm photography.
The staff also maintains the department's evidence and property room. All submitted evidence is carefully logged and tracked with bar coding.
The Reserve Officer is the liaison with officers, courts and prosecutors to track property for disposal and destruction.
To stay abreast of new techniques and technologies the Techs attend a variety of forensic schools, seminars and workshops throughout the year. All are active in the International Association of Identification, Arizona Identification Council and other professional organizations.
