The Pima Regional SWAT Negotiations Team is an arm of the Pima Regional SWAT Team.  Like the Regional SWAT Team, the Regional SWAT Negotiations Team consists of negotiators from six (6) different law enforcement agencies in Southern Arizona.  Participating agencies include:

  • Pima County Sheriff's Department
  • Oro Valley Police Department
  • Marana Police Department
  • Sahuarita Police Department
  • Pascua Yaqui Police Department
  • South Tucson Police Department
  • Tucson Airport Authority

The team consists of four (4) sergeants and sixteen (16) negotiators.  The team is broken down into two (2) squads with two (2) sergeants and eight (8) negotiators.  Currently, the Oro Valley Police Department has one sergeant and six (6) negotiators assigned to the Pima Regional Negotiations Team.

The mission of the Pima Regional SWAT Negotiations Team is to provide support to the Regional SWAT Team and all of the law enforcement agencies in Southern Arizona with hostage situations, barricaded individuals, suicidal subjects, mental health crisis and other crisis situations through the deployment of specially trained officers skilled in crisis management and hostage negotiations.  These specially trained officers will respond to incidents involving, or potentially involving, a high risk to the public, police officers or suspects.  During these incidents, our goal is to attain a peaceful resolution through communication.
