K-9 Unit

Sergeant Andy Lopez

His unit is responsible for handling searches for narcotics, people and bombs.  The K-9 teams participate in regular training exercises to maintain their high level of expertise in their specialized field.

Reynolds & Nikko

Canine Nikko became a member of the Oro Valley Police Department in January 2006. Nikko is an AKC Black German Shepherd who was born and trained in Arizona. Nikko is trained in patrol tactics and nationally certified in narcotic detection. Canine Nikko is handled by Officer Reynolds.

Warren & Emerson

Canine Emerson joined OVPD in May 2011.  Emerson is a male Belgian Malinois who comes to OVPD via Mexico. Emerson is a dual purpose canine trained in patrol tactics and narcotic detection. Canine Emerson is handled by Officer Warren.

Marvin & Lara

Canine Lara joined OVPD in May 2011. Lara is a female Belgian Malinois who was purchased with grant funds donated by the National Rifle Association. Lara was imported from Holland and received her training and certification, along with her handler, in Texas. Lara is trained in explosive detection. Her and her handler are active members of the Pima Regional Bomb Squad, a multi-agency partnership. Canine Lara is handled by Officer Marvin.
