Borrowing Materials

Want to check out an authoritative reference material for your research project?

Now you can take one home!  Many reference materials check out for 3 days!  Ask your library staff for details.

On this page, you will find the answers to these questions:

How many library materials can I borrow?

The type of library card determines the number of items that can be borrowed or check out at one time.

  • Full-service library cards permit up to 25 items and up to 10 DVD's
  • Adult limited-service library cards permit up to 2 items
  • Teen limited-service library cards permit up to 5 items

You can check your account online by logging onto My Account with your PIN number (Need a PIN number? you can create one at the Login to My Account).  Click the Checked Out Items button to see what you have currently checked out and when your items are due.

What is the loan period?

Most items check out for 21 days and may be renewed up to 4 times, if no one else has requested them.  Reference materials marked with a green sticker can be checked out for three days.  The following items can not be renewed:

Is there a grace period?

There is a 3-day grace period on items checked out at the library, except for reference materials.  If you return items within the grace period, you are not charged overdue fines.  The materials are considered overdue, but the fines are not assessed.  On the fourth day from your original due date, you are charged overdue fines from the date your item was due originally.  Visit Fees & Fines for more information.

What is the privacy and confidentiality of my library record?

Because of privacy concerns, a customer's library record details may not be shared with anyone but that customer.  Reserves for a customer may be picked up by someone else if the person has the customer's library card or the library cards are linked.

What are linked library cards?

Library cards can be linked together to allow any person in the linked group to pick up and check out library reserves for anyone in the linked group.  Linked cards allow quick access to view account information of persons in the linked group.  Library cards must be linked at the library information desks.  For more information on linked library cards, visit PCPL's webpage, Library Cards - Linked Library Cards.
